Replace Your Driver's License or Learner's Permit

If your driver's license or learner's permit has been lost, stolen, or damaged, you must get a replacement.

You can also get a replacement if you:

• Changed your address
• Changed your sex designation
• Would like an updated photograph
• Want to upgrade to REAL ID

Renew or Replace?

If the expiration date on your driver's license is less than one year away, you may choose to renew your driver's license instead of replacing it.

You can order a replacement online or in person. Either way, your new card will be mailed to you.

How To Get a Replacement License or Learner's Permit Online

You may get a replacement driver's license or learner's permit online unless one or more of the following apply:

• You are under the age of 18
• Your credential is expired, cancelled, suspended or revoked
• You need to change or correct the name on your license or learner’s
• You owe money to DMV for a prior transaction
• You need a new photo
• You have surrendered your license or learner’s to another state
• Your customer number on file needs verification
• You have already requested a replacement online today
• You are required to provide proof of legal presence.
• You are upgrading to a REAL ID compliant credential

Replace Online

If you get a replacement license or learner's permit online, DMV will use the photograph on your current credential. If you would like a new photograph, make an appointment to visit one of our customer service centers or stop by any day we're open.

How To Get a Replacement License or Learner's Permit In Person

To get a replacement driver's license or learner's permit at one of our customer service centers, you must:

• Present a completed Driver's License and Identification Card Application.

  Note: On the application, you may also apply to register to vote, change your voter registration address or notify DMV of a change of address or name.

• Present one proof of identity document (additional documents are needed for REAL ID)
• Have a new photo taken
• Pay the replacement fee
  • $20 for a replacement license (an additional $10 one-time fee for REAL ID)
  • $2 for a replacement permit

Remove the Vision Restriction After LASIK
