Virginia offers more than 250 unique plates for our citizens. These plates represent colleges and universities, branches of the military, localities and special interest organizations such as conservationists, professional organizations and hobbyists.
A variety of college and special interest plates financially support college scholarships, foundations and preservation, and a portion of revenue-sharing plate fees may qualify for tax deductions. Qualifying businesses may apply for business logo special plates.
Virginia plates are also available as personalized souvenirs.
NOTE: DMV cannot issue or renew any special license plates to any vehicle owner or co-owner who is registered pursuant to the Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry Act if the design of such plates (logo, emblem, seal or symbol therein), references children or children's programs or if any revenue-sharing provision authorized for such special license plates contributes, directly or indirectly, to any fund or program established for the benefit of children (Va. Code § 46.2-725).
